🔐 How It Works (and Why It's Safe)

If your group hits 15 members by the time we exit the WhatsApp Group, you unlock friend-exclusive perks:

We will set up your 1318 WhatsApp Group automatically
You will invite your friends with the WhatsApp Group link
Within 24 hours, we leave the group and hand over admin rights to you only
Before we exit, we'll post a poll for your friends: "Are you going to 1318? Yes / No / Maybe." and some content

1. Purpose of Collecting Your Information

By entering your phone number and creating a 1318 Friends Group, you consent to 1318 Festival collecting and using your information solely for:

Creating your official 1318 Friends Group

Sending you your unique invite link

Managing your group communications (polls, invites, event reminders)

Keeping you updated with event information, promotions, and prize opportunities related to 1318 Festival

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties unrelated to the 1318 Festival.

2. POPIA Compliance

(Protection of Personal Information Act) We take your privacy seriously. In accordance with South Africa's POPI Act:

Your personal information (phone number and group data) will be securely stored.

Access to your information will be restricted to authorized 1318 Festival staff or service providers bound by confidentiality.

You have the right to request deletion of your information by emailing info@1318.co.za

3. Group Conduct and Liability

By creating or joining a 1318 Friends Group, you agree to conduct yourself in a respectful manner.

You are responsible for ensuring that any content or communication shared in the group is appropriate and not offensive, racist, discriminatory, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise harmful.

1318 Festival is not responsible or liable for any inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content posted by group members. Such content is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate removal of the offending individual(s) from the group.

Unauthorized sharing of group members' contact information or personal details without their consent is strictly prohibited. Violations may result in removal from the group and further actions as deemed necessary by 1318 Festival.

4. Group Members' Information

We do not retain the information of WhatsApp group members other than the individual who initiated the group

Our access to the members' information is limited to a maximum of 24 hours, after which we will remove ourselves from the group.

5. Opting Out

You can opt out of receiving updates or deactivate your Friends Group at any time by:

Communicating your request to us directly when receiving an update; your cell number will then be removed from our communications.

Emailing us at info@1318.co.za to stop receiving communications.

Deactivating your group by removing all members and yourself or simply removing yourself if your friends still want access. Once you opt out, we will delete your personal information from our active databases within 30 business days unless legally required to retain it.
